Project Goal

The main goal of this project is to significantly improve the performance and reliability of current server architectures for data centers and Internet servers, for a given cost and power consumption budget. This project will develop research on processor, memory, and interconnect architecture, multiprocessor systems, system software, parallel file systems, dynamic load balancing, and techniques to efficiently support data acquisition and client accesses through wireless networks, as well as improving the quality of resource access through the Grid.

This research programme leverages on the combined expertise of several research groups across four public universities in Spain, also starting a few new research lines in order to address the above mentioned goal in a more comprehensive manner. The approach we will follow combines evolutionary research with disruptive research. In addition to applied research (both evolutionary and disruptive), we will also build a relatively small server prototype to implement some of the solutions we propose on a real system, and fine tune some of the design parameters.
